HISTORY

The Central Texas Chapter of the American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) held its first regular meeting at Fort Hood on 20 January 1977, over 30 years ago! The National President of ASMC presented the Charter to 121 Charter Members on 24 February 1977. Our Chapter was the largest chapter ASMC had ever chartered, and was named for the Central Region of Texas where Fort Hood is located.

Our first Chapter President was BG(Ret) Donald Gudinas. Many of the original members have retired from the military or civil service and still reside in the Central Texas area, such as Ms Pert Garraway, Mr. Norman Dunbar, Ms Frances Horton, Mr. Tommy Buckley, and Mr. Nathan Wells to name a few. Ms Marjorie Hairston is still employed at Fort Hood. Our Scholarship Program is in memory of Mr. John C. Colgin, a Lifetime Chapter Member, who retired and was deceased in 2005. The Chapter presents $1,000.00 and $500.00 Scholarships (minimum) annually from Chapter funds to nominated local college-bound students sponsored by an ASMC member and selected by the Scholarship Committee based on established criteria. Current membership is 98 active members.

Today, the Central Texas Chapter, ASMC, continues to fulfill its goals for excellence in professional development. Imagination, motivation, and a desire to excel have kept this Chapter active and poised to move forward and transform as the Army does in the 21st Century. Our Chapter is here to ensure Resource Managers have a forum to discuss challenges within the military community and to share ideas to provide more effective and efficient methods for formulating, planning, executing, and reporting Army resources. As a result, Fort Hood continues to be on the cutting edge of technologies and a great place to live, train, and work.
